Campbell lodge
 
Campbell Lodge, this historic building sets back among the trees in the San Bernadino forest. The property has had a long and varied life. It's first commercial enterprise was in 1928 as the "Dolly Varden Angling Club." Folklore and stories are bountiful. Considering that Mountain Home Creek Road was once part of the main "Highway 38", the lodge was a main stopping point for hunters, fisherman and other "sports" enthusiasts. Though gambling was illegal then, just as it is now, it did not seem to stop them from arranging a poker room upstairs in Campbell Lodge's Room 5 where the acoustical wall board still helps sound proof the room. And the closets in Room 4 once hid slot machines. It struggled in the 30's due to the depression and then was purchased by William & Kitty Peeling around 1940. Kitty Peeling turned it into an exclusive club that served as a getaway for many Hollywood luminaries; names like Mary Pickford and Buddy Rogers, Maria Montez and Jean Pierre Amount, John Ford and Edward Arnold. Following Peeling's ownership, the facility was owned briefly by a "Mr. Camous" approximately 1948-1950. Then in 1950 it was purchased by James and Joy Favour. They changed the name to "Loch Leven" and ultimately sold the property to the Disciples of Christ. The unoccupied building is now home to bats, rats & stories of Paranormal activity. Some of the claims are: lights that seem to float by the attic windows, Unexplained knocks & noises, The face of a woman or witch appears in the attic window, lights turn on or off by them selves, Occasional foot steeps have been heard within the lodge.

POST set out to debunk these claims or possibly find evidence to back them up. We set up three 0-lux stationary IR cameras, used two hand held full spectrum camcorders & one full spectrum digital still camera. Also included in the Investigation was two ambient temperature gages, two digital audio recorders, one K2 meter & a digital EMF gage. WE started out in the left wing upstairs back bedroom. No lights or power was present in this section of the building. The only thing worth noting here was one strong EMF spike in the entrance of the room. As we moved in further the spike dropped off. We could not find the source or duplicate the EMF spike again. We moved on to what is called the ballroom. This room had an uneasy feeling about it. No activity was documented but After about five minutes Jason & I both felt a sudden cold spot at the same time. The temp. was holding at a steady 65 degrees with no change, so we concluded the cold spot was due to the old thin windows. We also found some wiring above us running through the attic that had a vary high EMF bleed off. From there we went down stairs to a small office room directly below the ballroom. After about one minute of entering this room Mike, Jason & I all heard what sounded like foot steeps above us coming from the ballroom. We had just left that room moments before & were the only ones in the lodge. After that exciting experience we visited the main living room, the loft sitting area and the crawl space under the home, which was large enough to stand up in. No accounts of paranormal activity were documented or experienced on these visits.

We took a break then moved on to the kitchen area, again no accounts of paranormal activity were found. At this point in the Investigation I decided to conduct an EVP session in the ballroom alone. Jason & Mike stayed down stairs & observed me via the DVR monitor. I sat on a chair in the middle of the ballroom alone. The only visible light was from the LCD screen of the full spectrum camcorder. There were a few times when I felt like someone was standing behind me but other then that no activity occurred. Upon reviewing the audio from my digital recorder we captured one faint EVP. Toward the end of the EVP session I say “I’m going to leave now, unless you can make your presence known, make a noise of some kind”. Right after that a faint “yes” is heard on the recorder which was not heard at the time. I was still sitting alone in the chair with no movement going on around me when this EVP was captured.

Toward the end of the Investigation mike had a great personal experience in the living room. He was standing by the restroom door when the back of his shirt was pulled up about half way. He actually felt a breeze run up his back to the bottom of his neck There were no windows open or drafts of any kind. Unfortunately this was not caught on camera & remains only a personal experience. As for now, we can not justify saying the Campbell Lodge is haunted. The footsteps we heard and the personal experiences suggests something might be present at this location but we need more evidence to be sure.
